This is the first in a series of paintings I'm releasing inspired by the ancestry of strong women from different cultures, my hope is that it inspires people to celebrate and learn more about their cultural background, giving thanks to the fierce protectors, nurturers, and beautiful warriors and survivors we originally came from.

I've named the piece Arataki, in Maori Arataki is a name that means leader or 'to lead'. Maori are the indigenous polynesian people of New Zealand, my ancestors hail from the iwi Ngāti Whātua, so I stand on the shoulders of many wahine toa (strong women) who I have to thank for my heritage and existing today. I am proud to honour them with this painting.
